Mrs. Mary Gladys Norris, 87, of Bardstown passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Windsor Gardens Nursing Home. She was born October 30, 1922 in Nelson County and was a longtime resident of Balltown.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas William Norris, a grandson, Charles William Norris, her parents, William Arthur and Mary Jane Payne Downs, 6 brothers, Johnny Downs, Archie Downs, Hudie Downs, Verlon Downs, Manuel Downs and Chester Downs and 4 sisters, Roxie “Carolyn” Elliott, Nellie Mattingly, Frances Riggs and Beatrice Burba.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Arvin Norris of Bardstown, 2 daughters, Jeanette Mattingly of Raywick and Anna Norris of Columbus, IN., 2 granddaughters, Lynn Howard and Rose Gant, both of Bardstown, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a sister, Izola Foster of Louisville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Church with burial in the church cemetery. Reverend Joseph Batcheldor will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, August 25, 2010 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 pm by Deacon Sam Filiatreau. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The American Heart Association or St. Thomas Church.
